9. Real-World Roadmaps

Jeremy Thomas and Myron Weber dig into mental models that help prioritizing a realistic roadmap for the short term and long term.

  • We are in the Prioritize stage of the Strategy to Execution Model
    • Hazards at this stage include assumptions, indecision and unresolved dependencies – financial, human and technological.
  • The Multidimensional Roadmap incorporates some key insights for how to prioritize:
    • Informing and Including stakeholders in the prioritizing process increases buy-in and alignment of effort,
    • A proportional timescale let’s us plan the short term and long term together,
    • A TBD bucket let’s us get everything on the roadmap,
    • Showing the Demand, Capabilities, and Environment together gives a holistic perspective to help assure that the roadmap is realistic,
    • The roadmap is a living document to be continuously updated as new information becomes available.
